Teaching Astronomy To Kids

On November 10th, The Star Troopers had an Astronomy outreach event for elementary students at UW Sheboygan. It was from 6:30 to 8:00 in the Science Building.

Inside we had a slide show of space, and a project for kids. Kids were able to make star globes. Kids had a blast making these globes.

Outside, we had two telescopes out. Only one was working, and it was aimed at the planet Saturn. Because both the Earth and Saturn are constantly moving, it had to be readjusted every couple minutes. This was very tedious. But in the end, both kids and adults had a lot of fun looking through the telescope and seeing Saturn.

Throughout the entire event, we had a steady stream of kids and their parents come out and visit us. It turned out better than we anticipated. I had fun helping kids looking at Saturn, and I'm sure everyone else who helped, had fun too.
